Zoo Day Camps
|
Thank you for another wonderful summer of day camp! Thanks to all the kids and councillors that got immersed in our animal antics and learnt to protect wildlife and nature. We'll see you all again at Spring Camp 2011.
Zoo Camp Summary Our goal is to provide a unique forum for education about wildlife and wildplaces through hands-on activities, nature treks, animal discovery and behind-the-scenes tours, all while providing an exciting and enriching place to meet new friends and have fun. We are located on Corydon Ave at the south gate entrance of the zoo. This gate is only open to the general public in the spring and summer, but is open for educational programming year round. Drop off and Pick up We do not offer before and after care at this time. Regular drop-off is between 8:30 - 9:00 am and regular pick-up is between 4:00 - 4:30 pm. There are no structured activities before 9:00 am or after 4:00 pm. There is a $5.00 fee per instance for every 15 minute interval that you drop off or pick up your child outside of these times. Refunds You will receive a refund of 90% of the program fee if you cancel with more than 10 business days notice. You will receive a refund of 75% of the program fee if you cancel with less than 10 business days notice. No refunds are given for cancellations with less than two (2) business day’s notice. Behaviour We want all children to have fun at Zoo Camp. Unfortunately, some children’s behaviour negatively impacts others. If a child is asked to leave camp, it will only be after we have contacted the child’s parents and no money will be refunded. Special Needs We do not have staff that can work with your child one-on-one, so it is the responsibility of the parents to provide an aide to accompany your child. Parents can call 982-0664 for further information. Our education building and all public zoo buildings are wheelchair accessible, but not all of our behind-the-scenes areas are. Nuts and Allergies We take allergies seriously but cannot guarantee that the program is completely free of food or environmental allergens. The Zoo Education Centre and many of the zoo’s other buildings may expose your child to allergens like nuts and seeds, hay, animal hair or dust. We promote a policy of no food sharing. Please help reduce the risk of peanut allergy reactions by not packing peanut or nut products in your child’s lunch. Behind the Scenes Visits Participants in each camp will have several opportunities to go behind-the-scenes over the course of the week. However, due to the number of children in camp and the small number of zoo keeping staff available for zoo programming, we can only schedule a limited number of special visits per week. The children will have opportunities to meet with our interpretive staff, along with some of our handleable animals (e.g. snakes, turtles, birds, various insects) throughout the week. Seasonal Themes Each year our education staff plans new programs so that campers will enjoy new theme, activities, crafts, and games. On a few occasions a repeat activity or special visit is planned if it proved very popular in the past. While we work hard to change things up each season, there is some duplication from week to week. |
